Meeting Manager
edition Differences
Meeting
Manager Standard
The standard edition of Meeting Manager uses
a file-sharing database.
This edition is ideal for small numbers of users in a Windows
environment.
Pros
- Meeting
data can be shared over a network.
- Easy to install.
- Inexpensive.
- Simple intuitive graphical interface.
Cons
- More
likely to require occasional database re-indexing maintenance
in an unstable
environment. An unstable environment is one in which a machine crashes
or is powered off improperly.
- Poor
performance with many (over 10) people on at one time.
- Can only
be used on Windows PCs.
- Includes Data Manager.
Meeting
Manager Client-server
The client/server edition of Meeting Manager
is well-suited for
small or large numbers of simultaneous users on Windows PCs
who may need to share schedule data over an intranet or the
Internet. Meeting Manager C/S has all the features
of Meeting Manager Standard except that data cannot
be backed
up and restored from the client software. Meeting Manager C/S
is a
true
client/server
implementation in that all
database access takes place only on the server. Additionally, the data
is accessed over a TCP/IP connection. This means you can have the
server
running in Montana and have a client with an open Internet connection
running in China sharing calendar data like it was in Montana.
Pros
- Meeting data
can be shared over an intranet or even the Internet.
- Very little
chance of requiring database re-indexing maintenance.
- Good
performance with many people on at one time.
- Simple
intuitive
graphical interface.
- Includes Data Manager.
Cons
- Can only be used on Windows PCs.
- Does
not
have the Sites feature that the Standard edition has. (Though a similar
effect can be achieved using the Categories feature.)
- Cannot back up and restore data
from the client software.
- Cannot directly connect to other database
servers such as MS SQL Server or MySQL.
Meeting
Manager Enterprise
Meeting Manager Enterprise is ideal
for large numbers
of users
on at one time in a Windows environment who need to access calendar
data over the
intranet or Internet. Meeting Manager Enterprise has all the
features of the Client/Server edition except that there is no Data
Manager in the client software to manage database table data. The table
data can only be directly accessed
and changed in the database server application. The biggest benefit
of Meeting Manager Enterprise over the
Client/Server edition is that Meeting Manager
Enterprise is scalable. You can start with a small number of users
accessing a single database server. Over time you can add more and
more users. If performance starts to erode you can simply use your
database server's load balancing features to improve performance.
Using the advanced features of database servers, you can accommodate
an unlimited number of people.
Pros
- Meeting data can be accessed over an
intranet or
even the Internet.
- Data can be stored on your
choice of several database servers, including MS SQL Server and MySQL.
- Very little chance of
requiring database re-indexing maintenance.
- Good
performance with many people on at one time.
- Simple
intuitive graphical interface.
Cons
- Can only be used on
Windows PCs.
- Must use and maintain an external
database server, such as MS SQL Server and MySQL.
- The client software does not have a Data
Manager.
Meeting Manager Web
You can access Meeting Manager Web
from a
web browser on
virtually any platform. The web edition of Meeting Manager
is well-suited for small
or large
numbers of simultaneous users who need to share meeting schedule data
over
the intranet or the Internet. Due to the limitations of HTML not all
the
features of the Meeting Manager Windows editions are in the web
edition. For example, the Data Manager in Meeting Manager Web
is
not as easy to use, resource bookings cannot be copied and pasted and
there is no sites feature.
Pros
- Meeting data can be shared over the
intranet or even the
Internet.
- Very little chance of requiring database
re-indexing maintenance.
- Good performance with
many people on at one time.
- Client can run in any web browser.
Cons
- Less functional Html interface.
- Must
run the server software on a Windows-based PC.
- Cannot change or create reports.
- Cannot directly connect to other database
servers, such as MySQL or MS SQL Server.
