Timesheets
Timesheets
record the amount of time an employee spends on a task or project.
Often timesheets can breakdown time in several different ways. Besides
breaking down time by client, project or task some timesheets can break
time down into phases and actions too. This breakdown of time has
important uses in payroll, client billing, project costing, project
estimation, project tracking and project management. This important
project management data exposes complex cost relationships
which can lead to lower costs.
There are several different
technologies available for timesheet software. File server timesheet
software will have shared data stored on the network and the timesheet
software installed on employee's computers. The disadvantage of file
server solutions is that they can generate a lot of network traffic and
the inherent instability of this solution can result in increased
maintenance. Client/server timesheets solve both these problems by
running special server software which acts as a communication bridge
between the client software and the data. An added benefit is that
client/server solutions can allow remote access without the need of a
virtual private network (VPN). Enterprise timesheet solutions are scalable because they use large
database servers which can be scaled up to handle any amount of data
storage and any number of users. Web-based timesheets allow timesheet entry from any web
browser. The big advantage of web-based solutions is the fact that no
client software needs to be installed. The disadvantage of bowser-based
solutions is the primitive nature of HTML. Newer technologies like AJAX
are steadily making this limitation less of a concern.
CyberMatrix has two solutions for timesheet entry. Timesheets enables
employees to easily enter the estimated time spent
on projects or tasks. Project Clock allows accurate start and end time entry or estimated timesheet entry for
projects or tasks.
